March 2019 - Dunedin, NZ. The Dunedin City Council has again been urged to reconsider its plans for new LED street lights in the city, or risk being ''locked in'' to the wrong choice for years to come.https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/dcc/call-alter-street-light-choice

April 2018 - Dunedin city councillors have been given a demonstration of the difference colour could have on LED lighting. Dunedin Dark Skies Group member Michael Broughton asked the councillors, during his submission on the council's 10-year plan yesterday, to consider delaying introduction of the planned LED street lighting programme in the city. He urged the councillors to investigate the use of amber instead of white, as it had a much lower effect on humans, wildlife and the night sky. To demonstrate his case, Mr Broughton brought a light box into the hearing and asked councillors to stare at the three different coloured LED lights positioned on the box. He then asked councillors which colour they preferred. Almost all of them said they preferred the amber light. odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/seeing-dunedin-new-light

Independent Record - July 2019. Numerous cities, including Seattle, Phoenix, and Davis, California, have made the costly mistake of installing ugly, cold-white LED streetlights and later had to replace them due to public outcry. Helena can avoid such a debacle by installing warm spectrum LEDs at the outset.  http://bit.ly/2YyqzCK

ChoOsing Safer, More effective LED Street LIGHTING

Duluth, Minnesota is taking a proactive approach to reducing light pollution and making better choices in LED street lighting technology. This video should be required for city/town/village councils all over the world.

The PROBLEMS WITH WHITE LED STREET LIGHTING

Most LED streetlights installed today are blindingly bright, intense and glary. While blue wavelengths of light readily scatter in the eyeball causing disability glare, the dazzling light emitted by LED technology is also the result of excess luminance, which can damage retinal tissue and harm eyesight. Lowering the correlated colour temperature (CCT) is not enough to solve the issue of glare and excess luminance. It must be addressed by the proper application of lightpipe technology.
